Avatar Game Trailer & 3D-"Avatar Day" Reviews...

1. I think today I experienced as big on a jump for film as black and white to color. I am still in awe on the footage.

2. Seeing the 15 minutes of footage yesterday reminded me of when I first saw Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park. It is groundbreaking and the bar has been raised. The trailer doesn't give you any idea of how amazing the footage looked on the big screen. When I saw the trailer I thought the footage looked too CG in parts but on the big screen that wasn't the case. Everything was photo realistic and just stunning. The only thing that tricked my eye was the knowledge that what I was looking at wasn't real. I've never seen photo realistic blue aliens interact before like this. For me, Cameron once again has taken a huge bold gamble on this film and I think it's going to pay off huge.

3. Just got back from an hour drive. Holy crap it was amazing. Yes the effects looked a bit iffy in the trailer but that was all changed on the big screen. Yes it's a game changer and yes it was amazing!

4. Saw the 15 min footage 7 hours ago in Glasgow. Completely different from the trailer. The 3D is amazing. The forest scenes with the glowing plants are just spectacular. Really hope there is a decent story to live up to the visuals.

5. Just got home from the 15 minute viewing and it was stunning. I can't stop thinking about the depth, the colors, the sound...the 3D....oh man the 3D is just incredible. Most scenes felt as though I was in the damn environment. Just crazy. The theater I was in was packed. You heard ooooos and aaaaaaas and wows, "stunning", "incredible" and "beautiful" out loud. The clapping from the audience at the end was ear shattering but well deserved. I can't even fathom what the full movie will be like. For those that didn't like what you saw in the trailer, I promise you...you are missing out. Give the IMAX 3D a shot come December. Cameron intended AVATAR for pure IMAX 3D glory and he nailed it. December can't get here fast enough. I've only been treated to a taste. I can't wait for the whole meal. It's going to be one hell of a ride.

P.S. - yes, this movie IS A GAME CHANGER

6. I saw it at the IMAX at Darling Harbour, Sydney... (proper Imax)... and I thought it looked fantastic, the CG is so much more effective on the huge screen and in 3D. I thought the trailer looked great, but the preview blew it out of the water. The chase scene in the forest was awesome and I really liked the hammerhead triceratops creature at the beginning of that scene... wow.

7. Singapore can watch twice in 3D if u can stand a long Q and I watched twice xD, thought CGIs a little suck on 2D trailers, but it's a wow on 3D.

8. i thought it was pretty awesome. the effects were great, but more than that i was very interested to see what was going to happen next and learn more about the world. the framing was awesome, beautifully shot, just all around well done. An interesting tidbit, they showed an alice in wonderland trailer in 3d before the footage, and the 3d was HORRENDOUS compared to avatar. i think that may be why i was so impressed, because i had something to base it off of. i thought the 3d was very impressive, and liked how it used depth as opposed to throwing things at the screen.

9. Just got back from the 6:00 PM showing in Houston (had to drive across town to get to the theater). I got to see it in3D on an IMAX screen, and it was worth it. Whatever misgivings I had when I saw the trailer on my computer (even in 420 HD resolution) were totally erased after this. The world and people are unbelievably detailed and life like. It really does feel like Cameron flew to another planet and took a camera with him. Now I see why it's been said that this one NEEDS to be seen on a big screen; it's absolutely gorgeous to behold, as well as immersive thanks to the 3D and the camera work. The only caveat? I wanted MORE when it was over, and now December 18th feels really far away.

10. that's exactly how I feel, I can understand why people were a bit 'meh' with the trailer - expectations too high perhaps?... however, that experience at the imax totally sold me on the film. I think it'll also look great on a regular screen in 3D..

11. on the whole that 15 minutes has dug in a bit. there's a moment that just wont get out of my head where he's training the pterodactyl thing, i think its when he's flying, i focused for an instant into the background and it was insane - for a split second i took in a million little details, light, clouds more pterodactyls, it was a really unusual moment and it's just stuck with me all day. if that level of visual intensity builds and maintains (we've seen none of the second half or more) it could prove to a very unusual few hours at the cinema.

12. I've never been so stunned by something I've seen on film. The wait till December 18th is officially the longest wait of my life.

13. This is the future, it looked incredible. I cannot wait for December! Welcome back Cameron!

14. Back from the screening. Oh my James Cameron, what have you made here. The trailer is NOT I repeat NOT a fair representation of this movie. What I saw completely blew me away because we have truly not seen CGI or for that matter 3D applied in this way. This is no gimmick because Cameron has utilized 3D for the entire movie. Not just select parts that go "Look at me, I'm popping out". I get in there right in the nick of time (missed Camerons intro) and what I saw unfold was an entire world with its own personality and allows the audience to literally feel inside this world with the other characters. The level of detail is extraordinary, can't really find another word to describe it. Now on to the Na'vi (which I was very skeptical about since the trailer) . They are lifelike, simply no way around it. The level of captured performance due to the mo cap they used is incredibly precise. None like it. Cameron has won me over once again. There is no doubt in my mind now that this is truly something special. See this in 3D people, this made me believe that you can harness 3D not only to make things go "POP" but to add a whole new level of realism not seen before. By the way was anyone in total awe near the end with the shot of the gigantic forest and millions of leaves just coming down. Wow just wow. I tip off my hat to Mr. Cameron and feel incredibly guilty for doubting him. The trailer is a shame, see this in 3D.

15. I just got back from the Avatar footage. This movie is nothing like I've ever seen. The character and set design are nothing short of phenomenal. I can't remember the last time I was just simply enjoying a movie like this. The world they've created is so bright and alive– very sweet. Can't wait for December.

16. WOW. Hats off to Cameron. That was truly a spectacle, drove from Austin to San Antonio (1hr 45 minutes) and man am I glad I did. This movie needs to be seen in IMAX/3D, from the first scene you see (which is not an action scene whatsoever), you immediately get the "feel" of what Cameron is doing. He took an ordinary scene and essentially put you in it, you feel like you are there, it was awesome. I am not understanding any of the comments regarding how this is not ground breaking, it is. In no way has any 3D movie come accross this way, the 3D was FAR from ordinary it was eye-popping, the visuals in the forest were just beautiful, the characters as well. The dialogue was a bit testy in some areas but you are talking 5 different slices or so of moments from the film so you can't have a grasp of the character, etc. That to me was the only distracting thing were the cuts. I found myself just staring in awe at this short preview. I think if they can keep up this level for the whole movie, it truly will be an amazing feat, the story does sound interesting and this just got me excited for more. The theater I was in was about 1/3 full but I really think they just designed it this way so everyone would have a good seat for this preview. After it was over I think it took people time to think about what they had seen, it is like NOTHING they have seen, not even close, so to react to it that quickly and process everything isn't really a fair situation. I would say the best word to describe this experience is "immersion". Can't wait until December gets here!

17. I'll say it again. Avatar is a sight to behold indeed. The crisp 3D, environments to die for, and action/story to lock you in for 3hrs10min. The 3D does what it does, but in a way that is so seem-less, that your mind literally puts you in the scene. Not once did I find myself pulling back out of the scene and trying to get my bearings straight. When Jake steps into his avatar, and the camera profiles him, your mind tracks and wants to grab every detail, every twitch, every mannerism you can. The detail is like nothing you have ever seen. The jungle parts are indescribable and can't be justified with words or trailers. You know that feeling when you experience something new, exciting, and full of wonder? I felt that with Avatar. It has been a loooong time that I have felt so much about one movie. To have that feeling again....is just surreal. We were offered to buy tickets to the 12:01 showing Dec 17th. Needless to say, I grabbed mine. Poor Christmas Carol and Alice in Wonderland, I'm sorry you had to be put before the screening. You didn't stand a chance.

18. So, in order to justify driving 45 minutes to see the Avatar screening, I decided to go a bit early and see Basterds beforehand. The Avatar trailer played before Basterds, and it definitely looked much better to me on an actual movie screen, as opposed to my computer monitor. It looked better, but I still felt underwhelmed after hearing such great things about the Comic Con footage. But then after, seeing the footage in 3D and IMAX, Avatar completely blew me away. I'm not sure what it is, but the sheer amount of information packed into each shot was incredible, and I have the feeling this is going to be a movie that I'll go see three or four times in theaters because it just won't feel the same seeing it on DVD/Bluray. In short, what I saw took full advantage the IMAX and 3D, and it looked marvelous; one hundred times better than the 2D trailer made it seem. I was unsure about Avatar before, but now I'm fully onboard the bandwagon. I can't wait for December.

19. I am pretty much speechless at what I saw. Absolutely amazing and this just gets me even more pumped up for the release in December. One of the guys in my theater said it best: "The black frames in between the scenes are put there so you can breathe."

20. I saw the footage in 3D yesterday and I was blown away! It looked amazing. I cant understand all of the critisicm it is getting - what do you people want?! The 3D was very effective, the world of Pandora looked breathtaking and the story looks like its going to be a Dances With Wolves type. I dont think 3D is a gimmick as I think it hightens the experience and submerges you in the world. Its like visual stereo sound. And to those that are saying that its not a game changer consider this: Steven Speilberg, Peter Jackson, Del Toro, Ridley Scott are but a few of very powerful and influential director who are ALL OVER this technology and want to utilise it in their future projects (Scott is adapting a book called 'The Forever War' specifically for this 3D). It's already making waves and influencing others.

21. Saw it twice yesterday, first in a regular cinema and the second time in IMAX. The first viewing literally took my breath away, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It looked better at the IMAX though. This first scenes 3D looked more natural in the bigger format. The CG was very good and makes me wish I waited before watching the teaser trailer on my laptop. A computer screen can't do the footage justice. Sigourney Weaver still looks the same a she did in Aliens, she hasn't aged! Loved the Na'vi eyes, they're not dead anymore like Beowolf and make the characters more believable. Glad I drove the 2 hours into London!

22. Anyone who keeps saying this is NOT a game changer, needs to understand what they're saying. This is a giant leap forward in my opinion. What I witnessed today, was nothing short of astounding. This is a film that will be repeatedly watched, studied, and adored for many years. And I'm thankful that Cameron had the balls to jump into 3D, when everyone was warning him not to. December cannot come quick enough.

23. Saw it yesterday on the "fake" IMAX in Knoxville, TN. It was amazing. Took my girlfriend who knew nothing about it beforehand. She was quite taken with it too. The 2D trailer came on before Inglorious Bsaterds when we caught it at the same theatre a couple hours later. It doesn't do it justice. Wondering why they chose to show it in 2D at all. People who didn't/haven't experienced the 3D aren't going to be impressed by the very Star Wars looking animation in the 2D trailer. Heard a lot of laughs after the trailer. Heard people dissig it int he way out of IB too. So, again I ask: "Why cheapen the experience by releasing a 2D trailer?"

24. I got to watch the 16 or so min show at the IMAX in WhiteMarsh, MD. I heard it wasnt the original IMAX experience but what i experienced is so far the greatest movie experience ever. I cant wait for the movie to release in Dec. The 3d animation was perfect and in most of the scenes i felt like I was there. Sound quality was also off the hook. Its true, the teaser trailer from the website does trick audiences.. the 2d version just seems ok but the 3d version is the best experience ever...

Υ.Γ:Αναρωτιέμαι για πολλοστή φορά ρε φούστη μου, γιατί ο σκηνοθέτης να είναι ο μεγαλύτερος μαμιάς που υπάρχει σε ολόκηρο τον κόσμο!!Δλδ ο Κάμερον μόνος του τα έκανε όλα αυτά; Αυτός ευθύνεται για τα unprecedented and breathtaking visuals????"Oh Cameron" , "Cameron, you are the Lord", "Cameron, hallowed be thy name!!".

Αν σκηνοθετούσε ο Κιούμπρικ τι θα έλεγαν;

CineTV-world είπε...

CineTV-world είπε...

Κατ'αρχην, έχω πολλές φορές πει οτι οι σκηνοθέτες εσφαλμένα παίρνουν όλη τη δόξα οι ίδιοι(Το είχα βάλει και υπογραφή στο cinemag). Από εκεί και πέρα, όντως υπάρχουν πολλοί σκηνοθέτες που βάζουν απόλυτα τη δική τους σφραγίδα, οι λεγόμενοι και auter. Αυτοί τις περισσότερες φορές είναι εκείνοι που γράφουν τα σενάριά τους(Μπεργκμαν, Σ.Κ π.χ) αλλά και άλλοι, όπως ο Μάρτυ. Τώρα, ο Κάμερον για μένα δεν ειναι τέτοιος σκηνοθέτης από τη μία και από την άλλη δεν έχει καμία σχέση αυτό που λες, ότι είχε δλδ την ιδέα. Δεν εκθειάζουν ολοι την ιδέα,αλλά τα ΓΡΑΦΙΚΑ, τα οποία τα έχει φτιάξει ένα τεράστιο επιτελείο, με εφόδια την υπερσύγχρονη τεχνολογία!!Ο Κάμερον γιατί να παρει όλα τα εύσημα;;;

Με αυτό που είπες στον Γ. όμως, θα νόμιζα ότι συμφωνείς...Γιατί τα λες αυτά;;

CineTV-world είπε...

CineTV-world είπε...

με αρέσει η επιστημονική φαντασία...η επιστημονική μαλακια δεν με αρέσει...{αν και εδώ δεν έχουμε να κάνουμε με επιστημική φαντασία}

και το alone in the dark να έβλεπες σε 3d θα σε ενθουσίαζε.

CineTV-world είπε...

2. "και το alone in the dark να έβλεπες σε 3d θα σε ενθουσίαζε."
